The Katsina State Government has applauded the Nigerian Army for a major breakthrough in the fight against banditry after troops neutralized seven armed bandits in Kankara Local Government Area.
The operation, which lasted more than two hours on Thursday at Baba community, followed credible intelligence on the movement of criminal gangs terrorizing farming communities. In the fierce encounter, troops overpowered the bandits, killing seven, while others fled with gunshot wounds. Four motorcycles used by the criminals were also recovered.
The Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr. Nasir Mu’azu, in a statement, commended the courage and professionalism of the troops, stressing that the operation is part of ongoing military offensives aimed at dismantling bandits’ hideouts and ensuring farmers carry out their activities without fear during the rainy season.
Dr. Mu’azu reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting security agencies with logistics, intelligence, and community-based collaboration to sustain the momentum against banditry.
He urged residents, particularly in rural areas, to continue sharing timely information with security agencies to help crush the remaining criminal elements.
“With the combined efforts of security agencies, government, and the people, we are confident that Katsina will overcome these challenges and restore lasting peace,” he assured.
