MAIDUGURI/YOLA — Nigerian troops have intensified counter-insurgency operations in the North-East, killing three Boko Haram fighters and arresting a 64-year-old suspected drone supplier in coordinated offensives across Adamawa and Borno states.
Security sources confirmed that the breakthroughs followed separate ambush missions targeting insurgents and their logistics networks in volatile corridors.
Commander Neutralised in Madagali
In Madagali Local Government Area, troops working alongside local vigilantes and hunters laid an ambush along the Visik River corridor.
During the operation, one insurgent identified as Abdullahi Mafa — described as a former hybrid commander in the area — was neutralised, dealing a blow to the group’s operational structure.
In a related development at Madagali Motor Park, soldiers apprehended Dauda Usman Gubula, alleged to be a collaborator and drone supplier to Boko Haram.
Two drones and 20 solar power banks were reportedly recovered from the suspect, who is currently in custody undergoing interrogation.
Security analysts say the seizure underscores growing concerns over the use of surveillance drones and renewable energy devices by insurgent groups to enhance battlefield coordination.
At about 12:50 a.m. on Thursday, troops in collaboration with vigilantes and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force executed another ambush at Gwadale, an abandoned village along the Ngoshe–Kirawa road axis in Adamawa State.
One insurgent was neutralised during the encounter, while others fled, some believed to have sustained gunshot wounds.
Items recovered at the scene included a carton of detergent and a bag of salt, suspected to be logistics supplies intended for insurgent camps.
Troops later regrouped and returned safely to their base in Pulka.
The latest operations form part of ongoing efforts by the Nigerian Army and allied security forces to dismantle insurgent cells and disrupt their supply chains across Borno State and neighbouring regions.
Military sources reaffirmed their commitment to sustaining operational momentum, urging residents to continue providing timely and credible intelligence to security agencies.
As troops tighten the noose on insurgent networks, authorities say the goal remains clear — degrade operational capacity and restore lasting stability to communities across the North-East.
