In the early hours of Sunday, gallant troops of Sector 3 under Operation Hadin Kai successfully thwarted an attempted terrorist infiltration into Monguno town via the Charlie 15 axis in Borno State.
Security sources confirmed that the foiled assault occurred around 2:55 a.m., when vigilant soldiers detected suspicious movements and swiftly engaged the armed insurgents in a fierce exchange of gunfire.
As the terrorists retreated under pressure, the troops pursued them and discovered blood traces along their escape path—an indication that some of the fleeing assailants may have sustained gunshot wounds during the firefight.
The military also recovered several items at the scene, including seven rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, a PKT machine gun belt, an empty AK-47 magazine, an RPG bomb, a pack of spaghetti, and a pair of slippers.
No injuries or casualties were recorded among the soldiers, and the attackers were last seen fleeing into the surrounding forest, bringing the situation under control without further confrontation.
