Troops Foil Midnight Kidnap Attempt at Tsafe Health College, Bandit Neutralised

Borno State Government

Troops of Operation Fansan Yanma, working alongside local vigilante members popularly known as Askara, have successfully repelled a daring bandit attack on the College of Science and Health Technology Tsafe in Tsafe, killing one suspected bandit and forcing others to flee into nearby bushes.

Security sources disclosed to Zagazola Makama that the dramatic incident occurred late at night when a group of armed bandits attempted to infiltrate the school premises with the apparent intention of abducting students.

According to the sources, the attackers had quietly approached the institution under the cover of darkness, hoping to take advantage of the calm atmosphere within the campus.

However, their plan was swiftly thwarted after troops of Operation Fansan Yanma, acting on intelligence and supported by local security volunteers, moved quickly to confront the intruders.

A fierce gun battle soon erupted between the security forces and the bandits, sending panic through the surrounding community.

During the exchange of gunfire, one of the suspected bandits was neutralised by the troops, while the remaining members of the gang reportedly escaped into the surrounding bushes.

Security sources noted that due to the darkness and the urgency of the operation, the troops and their vigilante counterparts were unable to immediately recover the weapon carried by the neutralised suspect.

Nevertheless, security operatives have since intensified patrols around Tsafe and its neighbouring communities to prevent further attacks and reassure both residents and students of the institution.

The swift response by the troops and local vigilante groups is believed to have prevented what could have turned into a major kidnapping incident targeting students of the health institution.

In recent years, bandit groups operating across parts of northwestern Nigeria have increasingly targeted schools and rural communities for mass abductions, often demanding huge ransoms for the release of victims.

The attempted attack on the Tsafe health college highlights the persistent security challenges facing communities in Zamfara State, where armed banditry and kidnapping have remained a major concern for authorities.

Security officials, however, commended the strong collaboration between troops and community-based vigilante groups, noting that such partnerships have proven crucial in thwarting attacks and gathering intelligence on bandit movements.

Residents have also been urged to remain vigilant and continue providing credible information to security agencies to support ongoing operations against criminal elements in the region.

Authorities say the sustained patrols and security presence around Tsafe will remain in place as efforts continue to track down the fleeing bandits and prevent any further attempt to target the school or nearby communities.
