Security forces in Borno have scored a major breakthrough as troops of Operation Hadin Kai intercepted and arrested a suspected Islamic State West Africa Province operative attempting to infiltrate Maiduguri.
The suspect, identified as Saina, was apprehended at about 4:42 p.m. on March 29 at a checkpoint in the Kilo Papa axis during a routine security screening.
Sources revealed that vigilant troops of the 21 Special Armoured Brigade, alongside other security operatives, flagged down a civilian vehicle conveying the suspect. His appearance—particularly a woodland camouflage trouser—reportedly triggered suspicion among the troops.
Initial interrogation saw the suspect claim he was affiliated with hybrid forces operating in Kumshe. However, further probing exposed inconsistencies in his account, with security sources confirming strong indications that he is an active member of a terrorist cell.
Authorities believe the suspect may have been on a reconnaissance mission, raising fresh concerns about infiltration attempts into the Borno capital.
He has since been handed over to military intelligence for thorough investigation as security agencies intensify surveillance to forestall potential threats.
The arrest underscores the heightened vigilance of troops in the North-East and their sustained efforts to neutralize insurgent activities and safeguard civilian populations.
