Troops of Operation FANSAN YANMA have eliminated notorious bandit leader Kachallah Hassan Nabamamu, also known as Hassan Dantawaye, after he attempted to escape while being transported to Gusau.
Nabamamu, a long-time terror figure in Tsafe and Mada local government areas, was captured during a fierce gun battle in Mada, Tsafe LGA, on February 27. However, during his transfer in the early hours of February 28, he tried to overpower a soldier, prompting troops to neutralize him on the spot.
In a related operation, troops also ambushed and killed two other top bandit commanders, Na-Allah and Dogo Basullube, who succumbed to injuries sustained in combat.
Bandits Mobilizing for Reprisal Attack in Tsafe
Intelligence reports indicate that heavily armed bandits from Danjibga, Keta, and Kwaren Ganuwa forests are advancing toward Tsafe, allegedly planning a reprisal attack.
A military official, speaking anonymously, assured that security forces are fully prepared to repel any assault.
“We have credible intelligence that one of the bandit commanders, Bakin Malam, is mobilizing fighters for a revenge attack. However, we are ready for them. Tsafe will be their graveyard,” the official stated.
To counter any insurgent movement, the military has reinforced its presence in Tsafe and surrounding areas, deploying additional troops and air support.
A Major Blow to Banditry in Zamfara
Nabamamu was one of the most feared bandit leaders in Zamfara, orchestrating mass kidnappings, extortion, and deadly attacks on civilians and security forces. He controlled over 100 heavily armed fighters and imposed illegal taxes on communities.
His neutralization marks a significant setback for bandit operations in Zamfara. Security experts believe that with his elimination, criminal activities in the region will suffer a major blow.
Operation FANSAN YANMA has intensified its offensive across Zamfara, Katsina, Sokoto, and Kebbi states, eliminating several high-profile bandit leaders and rescuing kidnapped victims in recent weeks.
