…One Soldier Killed in Fierce Gun Battle as Terror Plot Foiled
In a major counterterrorism success, troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA (OPFY) on Monday, July 22, 2025, thwarted a deadly terrorist incursion into Niger State, neutralizing dozens of fighters and recovering a cache of weapons, motorcycles, and communication gadgets.
The terrorists, believed to be advancing from Baban Doka in Maru LGA of Zamfara State, were intercepted near Inana village in Rijau LGA while attempting to invade Ragada and Warari communities.
A joint strike force drawn from the Mariga and Zuru axes launched a coordinated ground assault, backed by precise air strikes from the OPFY Air Component. The ensuing firefight was intense, forcing the attackers into disarray.
Troops recovered two AK-47 rifles, a loaded magazine, and no fewer than 18 motorcycles used for mobility. Intelligence devices used by the terrorists were also seized, effectively crippling their ability to coordinate further attacks.
Tragically, one courageous Nigerian soldier was fatally injured in the line of duty.
Captain David Adewusi, Media Information Officer for OPFY, confirmed the incident in a press statement on July 23, reassuring Nigerians of the military’s determination to flush out terrorists from the North West and North Central regions.
He urged residents to continue supplying credible intelligence to aid ongoing operations, affirming that OPFY remains “resolute in its mandate to defeat terrorists and criminal elements.”
This latest success adds to growing momentum by security forces working to reclaim peace and stability in Nigeria’s most volatile corridors.
