Troops Clear Bandit Hideouts, Neutralise IED in Sokoto

Borno State Government

Troops of Operation FANSAN YANMA (OPFY) have intensified their offensive in Sokoto State, clearing multiple abandoned terrorist hideouts and successfully detonating an improvised explosive device (IED).

According to security sources, the operation began around 8:30 a.m. on September 30, when troops stormed Tumbulumkum and Rumji villages in Illela Local Government Area. By 11:00 a.m., another team advanced into Rugan Ruwa, Alela, and Bilangi in Tangaza Local Government Area.

Though no terrorists were encountered during the sweep, troops noted that Bilangi village had been completely deserted, suggesting a hurried withdrawal by bandits.

On their way out, troops uncovered an IED planted along their withdrawal route. The device was promptly neutralised by explosive experts, averting potential casualties.

Security analysts say the operation underscores the military’s determination to deny terrorists safe havens and disrupt their capacity to launch attacks across Sokoto State.
