Greek football has been rocked by the tragic death of 31-year-old Panathinaikos defender George Baldock.
The international star was discovered lifeless in his swimming pool at his Glyfada home on Wednesday, sending shockwaves through the football community.
Baldock, who joined Panathinaikos in May after a seven-year stint with Sheffield United, had recently played 75 minutes in a Super League match against Olympiacos.
Despite his Greek heritage and representing the national team 12 times, Baldock missed the upcoming Nations League clash due to injury.
Greek state media reports suggest alcohol may have been involved, with a coroner called to investigate further.
Tributes poured in from the football world, with Manchester United’s Harry Maguire and Sheffield United leading heartfelt condolences.
Panathinaikos, Greece’s Super League, and football fans worldwide mourn the loss of a talent gone too soon.
