Tragic Canoe Accident Claims Four Lives in Borno State’s Dikwa Community

Borno Police Command Urges Caution Amid Rising Floodwaters

In a heart-wrenching tragedy, four lives, including three children, were lost in a devastating canoe accident in Dikwa, Borno State, on September 23, 2024.

Borno State Police Command confirmed that the incident occurred in the flood-ravaged Bakassi community between Mafa and Dikwa along Maiduguri Road.

The victims, all from Bulabulin Ward, Dikwa, were identified as Ya Mallum Shettima from Marte LGA, Maimuna Akura (10), Umira Alhaji Bulama (6), and Yagana Bulama Kawu, a 5-month-old baby. They were rushed to Dikwa General Hospital, where their deaths were confirmed.

Commissioner of Police, CP ML Yusufu, expressed profound sorrow over the loss and urged residents in flood-prone areas to remain vigilant and report emergencies.
