Tragedy struck as troops from the 181 Amphibious Battalion on a peace mission in Okuoma community, Bomadi Local Government Area of Delta State, were ambushed and killed by youths on Thursday, March 14, 2024.
The incident unfolded during a response to a distress call stemming from a communal crisis between Okuoma and Okoloba communities.
The reinforcement team, under the leadership of the Commanding officer, also faced a fatal assault, resulting in the loss of the Commanding officer, two Majors, one Captain, and 12 Soldiers.
In response, the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musa, has mandated an immediate investigation and the apprehension of those responsible for this egregious act.
The Delta State Government has been notified of the incident.
Despite this tragic setback, the military remains resolute in its mission to uphold peace and security across the nation.
Initial arrests have been made, and efforts are underway to uncover the motives behind this attack.
