A high-powered investigative panel has commenced a full-scale probe into the tragic death of two young sisters at the General Hospital in Zuru, as authorities move to unravel the circumstances surrounding the heartbreaking incident.
The committee, constituted by the Kebbi State Government, began sitting in Zuru Local Government Area, with intense proceedings already exposing critical testimonies from medical personnel and grieving family members.
According to a statement issued by Ahmad Hussaini Aliyu, Media Aide to the Commissioner for Information and Culture, the panel’s session at the hospital featured key witnesses, including doctors, nurses, and the parents of the deceased girls.
Among those who appeared before the panel were the Principal Medical Officer, Dr. Thomas Gode, and Medical Officer, Dr. Mohammed Fakai, alongside nurses who attended to the sisters from admission through the third day of their stay.
The medical team was rigorously cross-examined as the panel sought clarity on the sequence of events leading to the fatalities.
In an emotional session, the parents of the victims, led by their father, Ibrahim Abdullahi Shuni, recounted their ordeal, providing firsthand accounts of what transpired during their daughters’ treatment. Other family members also gave evidence, adding depth to the ongoing investigation.
The panel did not stop at testimonies alone. It engaged hospital staff in a broader discussion, where several workers pointed to a troubling communication gap within the facility — a factor believed to have contributed to lapses in patient care.
Chairman of the Panel and Commissioner for Information, Yakubu Ahmed, issued a stern reminder to health workers to adhere strictly to professional ethics, stressing that lives depend on diligence and coordination.
Similarly, the Commissioner for Health, Ismaila Yakubu Augie, called for stronger synergy among healthcare personnel, urging them to close ranks and deliver quality, life-saving services to the people.
As the probe deepens, more witnesses are expected to appear before the panel in the coming days, raising hopes that justice and accountability will prevail.
