A routine maintenance job turned tragic on Wednesday, May 29, as Mustapha Isa, a staff member of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC), lost his life after being electrocuted while attempting to fix a power fault at the company’s Mabushi office.
Eyewitnesses say Isa had climbed an electricity pole around 5:50 p.m. when he was suddenly electrocuted, causing him to fall and hit his head on impact. The resulting injury proved fatal.
Police patrol teams responded swiftly and rushed Isa to Gwarinpa General Hospital, where doctors confirmed him dead on arrival.
The remains of the late AEDC technician have been deposited at the Federal Medical Centre, Jabi, for an autopsy, while investigations are underway to determine the exact cause of the incident and ensure compliance with safety protocols.
The heartbreaking incident has sparked concern over staff safety in Nigeria’s electricity distribution sector, with calls for stricter enforcement of operational standards.
May his soul rest in peace.
