A devastating road accident along the ever-busy Abuja–Kaduna highway has claimed the life of a senior military officer, Maj. A.M. Abubakar, sending shockwaves through the defence community.
The fatal crash occurred on March 28 at Azara village near Jere in Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State, involving a commercial Sharon bus and a BUA Cement truck, according to sources.
Maj. Abubakar, a student of the Armed Forces Command and Staff College (AFCSC), was reportedly travelling as a passenger in the commercial vehicle when tragedy struck. He was pronounced dead at the scene, while other occupants of the bus escaped with minor injuries.
His remains have since been deposited at the 44 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital in Kaduna, where grieving family members later received his personal belongings.
As authorities commence investigations into the cause of the crash, fresh concerns have again been raised over the safety of one of Nigeria’s busiest and most dangerous highways.
The untimely death of the officer has cast a pall over colleagues and loved ones, marking yet another painful loss on the nation’s roads.
