Tragedy in Samaru: GOC 1 Division Offers Condolences, Launches Inquiry

Major General Lander Seraso, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 1 Division in Kaduna, personally visited the Sarkin Pawa community in Samaru Zaria to extend heartfelt condolences following a soldier-involved shooting that claimed the life of a local resident, Muhammed Ismail.

During his visit, Major General Seraso expressed deep regret over the incident, emphasizing the Nigerian Army’s commitment to public safety.

“One of my soldiers, deployed to ensure public safety, unfortunately fired a shot that led to the death of Muhammed Ismail,” he stated.In response to the tragedy, Major General Seraso has set up a Board of Inquiry (BOI) to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

He assured the community that the Nigerian Army is dedicated to uncovering the truth and holding the responsible personnel accountable.

The GOC met with the victim’s family, local youth, and residents, extending the Army’s condolences and emphasizing the unintentional nature of the tragic event.

“This loss is not just for you alone but for all of us. There was no intention to inflict harm or kill anyone,” Major General Seraso stated.

To ensure a thorough investigation, the BOI will sit in Samaru, close to the scene of the incident, making it easier for witnesses to testify despite the ongoing curfew.

Additionally, a delegation led by the 1 Division Chief Imam will attend the three-day prayers, bringing food items and drinks to support the deceased’s family.

The Nigerian Army remains committed to justice and transparency, seeking to rebuild trust with the Samaru community during this difficult time.
