A 20-year-old farm labourer, identified simply as Solomon, has been found dead from gunshot injuries after reportedly being shot while fleeing from an operative of the Western Nigeria Security Network, known as Amotekun, along the Ilesa-Iperindo Road in Osun State.
The tragic incident occurred on June 29, when a group of five farmhands were allegedly confronted by an Amotekun officer identified as Ajayi Ibukun. The young men were reportedly en route to a farm when the operative accused them of extorting commuters.
According to Temidayo Olowookere, the farmer who had hired the labourers, the security operative detained two of the five workers around 11 a.m. The remaining three, including Solomon, took to the bush in fear.
Later that day, Olowookere said the two detained labourers were released into his custody. By evening, two of the three who had fled also returned—but Solomon was nowhere to be found.
A search team was immediately dispatched, and the lifeless body of Solomon was eventually discovered in the bush with gunshot wounds to his back—suggesting he may have been shot while attempting to escape during the earlier encounter.
His body was taken to Wesley Guild Hospital in Ilesa, where he was officially confirmed dead and transferred to the morgue for autopsy.
The Osun State Police Command has launched an investigation into the incident and is working to track down the officer reportedly involved in the shooting. Meanwhile, the local community has called for justice for the slain youth, demanding transparency and accountability in the handling of the case.
