Tragedy in Monguno: Borno Police Arrest 15-Year-Old Over Infant’s Death in IDP Camp

A heartbreaking case of suspected infanticide has rocked the Charamari Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) Camp in Monguno, as the Borno State Police Command confirmed the arrest of a 15-year-old girl, accused of dumping a newborn baby into a pit toilet.

The suspect, identified as Yafalmata Alhaji Mustapha, was taken into custody after camp residents discovered the infant’s lifeless body around 6:00 a.m. on Thursday, prompting an immediate police investigation.

According to security sources, officers and medical personnel promptly arrived at the scene to document evidence and evacuate the infant’s remains to the Monguno General Hospital. The child was pronounced dead on arrival by a medical doctor, and an autopsy was scheduled to determine the cause of death.

The corpse has since been released to the Camp Chairman for burial in accordance with Islamic rites.

The police say investigations are ongoing to unravel the full circumstances surrounding the tragic incident, which has left many in the community shocked and grieving.
