Akwa Ibom Police Launch Full-Scale Investigation
The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has launched an intense investigation into a deadly domestic incident that left one woman dead and her boyfriend critically injured.
According to a press release issued by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Timfon John, the shocking incident occurred around 10:15 AM on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, at Qua River Quarters, Eket. Officers responded swiftly to a distress call reporting a violent altercation at the residence.
On arrival, police operatives found the couple—identified as Ruth Ngozi Sunday and her yet-to-be-identified boyfriend—lying in a pool of blood. Preliminary findings suggest that the duo were involved in a heated argument that escalated into a fatal knife fight.
The suspected murder weapon, a blood-stained kitchen knife, has been recovered from the scene.
Ruth Sunday, sadly, was confirmed dead shortly after being rushed to the hospital. Her boyfriend, who was found gasping for life beside her, is currently receiving intensive medical care while in police custody.
The motive behind the violent altercation remains unclear. However, the Command has assured the public that a thorough investigation is underway to uncover the full circumstances surrounding the tragic event. While the family of the deceased has been informed, efforts are ongoing to identify and contact the relatives of the male suspect.
DSP Timfon John urged the public to remain calm and refrain from spreading unverified narratives as investigations continue. She reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to justice and emphasized that further updates will be provided as the case progresses.
The Akwa Ibom State Police Command also took the opportunity to remind residents of the importance of seeking non-violent conflict resolution and the dangers of domestic violence.
