Tragedy in Akwa Ibom: Youth Leader Killed in Machete Clash, Suspect Arrested

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a suspect following a fatal machete duel that claimed the life of a community youth leader in Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area.

According to police sources, the violent altercation occurred on Thursday, September 11, 2025, at about 6:00 p.m., after a heated disagreement between 34-year-old youth president, Ekopimo Effiong Moses, and 37-year-old Joseph Okon Eren, a resident of the village originally from Ikot Obiondobo in Uruan LGA.

What began as a verbal exchange quickly spiraled into a bloody clash, with both men wielding machetes. In the ensuing fight, Moses sustained deep cuts and was rushed to the hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead shortly after arrival.

Police operatives swiftly arrested Eren, recovering a machete believed to have been used in the fight. The remains of the deceased have since been deposited at the morgue, while investigations continue into the circumstances that led to the deadly encounter.

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, said the Command has launched a discreet probe to ensure justice is served.
