A two-year-old boy has sadly lost his life after falling into a well at Bajallabe, in the Gwale Local Government Area of Kano State.
According to the Kano State Fire Service, the tragic incident occurred when the young boy accidentally slipped into an open well near his family’s residence. Despite prompt efforts by residents and rescue officers, the child was recovered unconscious and later confirmed dead.
In a statement issued by the Public Relations Officer of the Service, Saminu Yusuf Abdullahi, the agency received a distress call at about 5:40 p.m. and immediately dispatched rescue personnel to the scene.
“We received a distress call from one Malam Abdullahi at about 5:40 p.m. Upon arrival, our men brought the victim out of the well but unfortunately, he was already dead. His body has been handed over to his parents,” Abdullahi said.
This tragic occurrence adds to a series of similar incidents reported in recent times across Kano, raising serious concerns about the safety of uncovered wells and water points in residential areas.
Authorities are urging parents and community leaders to ensure proper covering of open wells to prevent further loss of lives.
