President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has lauded the Nigerian Army as the unyielding pillar of Nigeria’s sovereignty, applauding its 162 years of unwavering service in safeguarding the nation’s unity and territorial integrity.

Represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima at the grand finale of the 2025 Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL) held in Kaduna, President Tinubu described the Army as “the spine of Nigeria’s sovereignty and a symbol of unity and duty.”

In a stirring tribute to the gallant men and women of the force, Tinubu said the Army’s enduring sacrifices have ensured the survival of Nigeria’s democracy and protected its people from threats both internal and external.

“The Nigerian Army is not just a fighting force—it is a national institution that has stood the test of time. For 162 years, it has defended our unity, preserved our peace, and responded to national emergencies with courage and discipline,” he said.

This year’s NADCEL, themed “Transforming the Nigerian Army into a Well-Trained, Equipped and Highly Motivated Force Towards Achieving Constitutional Responsibilities,” showcased military parades, equipment exhibitions, and community outreach activities, reflecting both operational excellence and civic responsibility.

Vice President Shettima, speaking on behalf of the President, emphasized the government’s unwavering support to reposition the Nigerian Army for future challenges. He noted that the Tinubu administration is committed to modernizing the armed forces through better funding, training, and welfare reforms.

“Our administration recognizes that no nation can thrive without a formidable and professional Army. We will continue to prioritize the welfare of our troops and provide them with the tools they need to succeed,” Shettima stated.

The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, in his address, highlighted the milestones achieved by the Army in recent years, particularly in counterterrorism and peacekeeping operations. He assured the nation that the Army remains loyal to democratic principles and the Constitution.

The event drew dignitaries from the military, diplomatic corps, traditional institutions, and civil society, all gathered to honor the Army’s long legacy of service and sacrifice.

As drums rolled and soldiers marched in synchronized formation, the message was clear: the Nigerian Army remains resolute, battle-ready, and united in its mission to keep Nigeria safe.

With 162 years behind it and a new era ahead, the Army continues to symbolize strength, unity, and stronger nation.
