In a move widely hailed across the North and beyond, President Tinubu has approved the renaming of the Federal University of Medical Sciences, Azare, as Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi University of Medical Sciences, immortalising one of Nigeria’s most revered Islamic scholars and elder statesmen.

The late Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi was celebrated for decades as a towering Muslim cleric, teacher and moral compass whose influence cut across generations, regions and social divides. According to the Presidency, the decision reflects the administration’s belief that institutions of learning should also serve as living monuments to values that uplift the nation. “Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi stood for learning, humility and devotion to humanity.
