President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, the highly revered leader of the Tijjaniyya Muslim Brotherhood, who died on Thursday at the age of 101.
In a heartfelt condolence message, President Tinibu described the centuries-old cleric as “a teacher, a father, and a voice of moderation and reason”, noting that Sheikh Bauchi spent his entire life promoting peace, piety, and the true essence of Islamic scholarship.
The President said the death of the Bauchi-based sage was a monumental loss—not only to his family and millions of devoted followers, but to the entire nation. He recalled the blessings and moral support he personally received from Sheikh Bauchi during the buildup to the 2023 election, describing the gesture as one he would “never forget.”
“Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi was a moral compass whose sermons and lifestyle guided generations. His passing leaves a huge void,” Tinubu said.
The President extended condolences to the global Tijjaniyya community, urging them to honour the late scholar by preserving his legacy of peaceful coexistence, devotion to God, and kindness to all.
