President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Monday held a crucial closed-door meeting with the newly appointed Service Chiefs at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The high-level meeting, which took place at the State House, marked the first official engagement between the President and the new military hierarchy since their appointment last week in a sweeping shake-up of the Nigerian Armed Forces.
In attendance were the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede; Chief of Army Staff, Major General Waheedi Shaibu; Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Idi Abbas; Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal Kennedy Aneke; and the Chief of Defence Intelligence, Major General Emmanuel Undiendeye.
Though the presidency has kept details of the meeting under wraps, sources hinted that discussions centred on strengthening national security, enhancing inter-agency coordination, and boosting troop morale across various theatres of operation.
The meeting comes barely three days after President Tinubu approved the replacement of top military commanders — a move widely seen as part of efforts to inject fresh energy and professionalism into the armed forces.
Nigeria continues to face multifaceted security threats, including insurgency in the North-East, banditry in the North-West, and separatist agitations in the South-East. The President reportedly urged the new security chiefs to deploy innovative strategies and ensure visible results in restoring peace and stability nationwide.
While no official communiqué was released at the end of the meeting, expectations are high that the newly constituted military leadership will bring a renewed sense of purpose and coordination to Nigeria’s fight against insecurity.
