TINUBU MARKS 74TH BIRTHDAY WITH GRAND GESTURE—DONATES ALL SALARIES TO ARMED FORCES WELFARE FUND

Borno State Government

In a dramatic and symbolic move, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced the donation of all his salaries since assuming office to a newly established Armed Forces Welfare Fund, in a powerful tribute to Nigeria’s military heroes.

The announcement came on Sunday as the President marked his 74th birthday, turning what would have been a personal celebration into a national moment of reflection and gratitude for the sacrifices of the Armed Forces.

Declaring his admiration for the nation’s defenders, the Commander-in-Chief stated: “On this my 74th birthday, I celebrate the valiant men and women of our Armed Forces.”

A Fund for Heroes and Their Families
President Tinubu directed the Accountant-General of the Federation to immediately create a dedicated account to drive the initiative, which is designed to support:

Serving military personnel
Soldiers wounded in active service
Families of fallen heroes, including widows, widowers, and children

In a striking show of personal commitment, the President revealed that every kobo of his salary since taking office will serve as the seed funding for the scheme—an act expected to set the tone for wider national contributions.

The welfare fund, according to the President, will provide direct assistance to personnel who have suffered life-altering injuries, including loss of limbs, as well as dependents of those who paid the ultimate price in defense of the nation.

Calling for collective responsibility, Tinubu urged governors, lawmakers, private sector leaders, and citizens to rally behind the initiative once full details are released.

“We must never forget those who stand in harm’s way for our peace, nor the sacrifices borne by their families. This is not charity. It is duty—and we will fulfil it,” he declared.
Nation Awaits Details

While modalities for public contributions are yet to be unveiled, the announcement has already sparked widespread attention, with many viewing it as a bold step toward strengthening military welfare and honouring national service.

Further details on the special account and contribution framework are expected from relevant government authorities in the coming days.
