President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Monday held a closed-door meeting with Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf at the State House, Abuja, in a development that has reignited political speculation across the country.
Governor Yusuf arrived the Presidential Villa shortly after 4:00pm (WAT) and was personally escorted to the President’s office by the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, underscoring the significance attached to the encounter.
Although details of the meeting were kept under wraps, it comes against the backdrop of persistent reports suggesting that the Kano governor may be weighing a possible defection from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Political observers say the timing of the meeting has fueled intense interest, particularly as Kano remains a critical political battleground ahead of future elections. As of press time, neither the Presidency nor the Kano State Government had issued an official statement on the outcome of the talks.
For now, Aso Rock is silent — but the political rumour mill is roaring.
