Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has slammed death speculations circulating on social media, revealing he woke up to false claims of his demise. Speaking at the commissioning of the Old-Garage-Oke-Fia-Lameco road project in Osun State, Obasanjo expressed dismay at those wishing him dead, declaring, “Their wishes will not come true.”

The event, hosted by Governor Ademola Adeleke as part of his second-anniversary celebrations, became a platform for Obasanjo to dispel the rumors. Recounting how a close ally alerted him to the online claims, the ex-president said he verified the posts himself before informing his family and friends.

“Why anyone would wish me dead is beyond me,” Obasanjo said in Yoruba, adding that ill-wishers will face their own misfortunes.

He lauded Adeleke’s achievements in office, describing his leadership as “exceptional” and confidently predicting a second term for the governor. Obasanjo urged Adeleke to remain focused on prioritizing the welfare of the people.

The event served as both a reassurance of Obasanjo’s vitality and a celebration of Adeleke’s strides in infrastructure development.
