The Theatre Commander of Operation Hadin Kai, Major General A.E. Abubakar, has visited Giwa Barracks in Maiduguri to assess the extent of damage caused by the explosion that occurred on Sunday.
General Abubakar was received by the Commanding Officer of the 73 Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel N. Dalha, and the Joint Intelligence Centre (JIC) Commander, Colonel Ahmad, alongside other senior military officers. The team conducted an on-the-spot inspection of the affected areas.
The explosion, which triggered a major fire outbreak, destroyed several facilities—including the barracks’ only armoury. The Theatre Commander commended the swift response of troops and the combined efforts of federal and state fire service personnel in containing the blaze and preventing further escalation.
He urged the public to remain calm and go about their lawful activities, assuring that the situation is under control.
However, he issued a stern warning to residents, especially those living around the barracks, to avoid picking up unidentified metal fragments or objects, as some unexploded ordnance may have been scattered during the incident.
General Abubakar further appealed to the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious items, individuals, or movements to the nearest security agency or directly to the Operation Hadin Kai command via 09026959597.
