The Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Internal Security, Hon. Garba Ibrahim Muhammad, has revealed that terrorists have issued threats to bomb the National Assembly Complex in Abuja.
Speaking during a committee briefing at the National Assembly, Muhammad said security agencies have already been alerted to the threat, which he described as “credible and worrisome.”
According to him, intelligence reports obtained from relevant agencies indicated that certain terror groups are plotting coordinated attacks on key government institutions, including the National Assembly and other critical facilities in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The lawmaker said the committee has directed the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Police Force, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to intensify surveillance around the National Assembly complex and other government installations.
“We have received intelligence reports that some criminal and terrorist elements are planning to attack the National Assembly. We are working closely with the security agencies to ensure such plots are foiled before they happen,” Hon. Muhammad stated.
He urged Nigerians, especially residents of Abuja, to remain calm but vigilant, assuring that adequate security measures are being implemented to protect lawmakers, staff, and visitors to the National Assembly.
This development comes amid heightened security alerts in the Federal Capital Territory following recent counterterrorism operations that uncovered cells linked to extremist groups in parts of the North-Central region.
