TERROR RETURNS: 4 Killed, 10 Injured as IED Explosion Rocks Borno Highway

Katsina state government

KONDUGA, BORNO STATE — Tragedy struck on Wednesday afternoon when an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) detonated along the Damboa–Maiduguri highway, killing four passengers and injuring ten others in Komala village, Konduga Local Government Area.

According to a preliminary statement by the Borno State Police Command spokesperson, ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso, the explosion occurred around 12:30 pm as an Isuzu pickup vehicle (Reg No: DAM 156 XA) hit the deadly device suspected to have been planted by Boko Haram/ISWAP insurgents.

The vehicle was conveying passengers from Damboa to the Borno State capital, Maiduguri, when the blast tore through the route — a known insurgent hotspot.

Police confirmed that the remains of the victims and the wounded have been taken to the State Specialist Hospital in Maiduguri for treatment and proper identification.

Security forces have since deployed a joint response team to the area to prevent further attacks and reassure the travelling public. Authorities say normalcy has been restored.

This latest attack raises fresh concerns about lingering threats posed by IEDs across volatile corridors in Borno State, despite ongoing military operations.
