Abuja — Tension is rising across Nigeria following a bold warning issued by former Niger Delta militant leader, Mujahid Asari Dokubo, against the United States and its president, Donald Trump.
Asari Dokubo, in a strongly worded statement, vowed that American troops “will all die” if they dare to set foot in Nigeria. His outburst follows reports that Donald Trump had allegedly directed the U.S. military to prepare for possible intervention in Nigeria over alleged human rights abuses and killings of Christians.
In his reaction, Asari Dokubo described Trump’s statement as an insult to Nigeria’s sovereignty and a declaration of hostility. He warned that any attempt by foreign forces to invade or interfere in Nigeria’s internal affairs would be met with deadly resistance from patriotic citizens.
“We will never allow any foreign power to dictate how we manage our country. If they step into Nigeria, they will not return alive,” he declared.
The ex-militant leader, who is known for his fiery speeches, also called on Nigerians to unite against what he termed “foreign intimidation,” saying that Trump’s alleged remarks were aimed at destabilizing the country and undermining its independence.
Meanwhile, Nigerian government officials have maintained that the nation’s security challenges are being addressed internally and urged international partners to respect Nigeria’s territorial integrity.
Political observers say Asari Dokubo’s statement reflects growing anger among nationalist groups who view Trump’s comments as a direct threat to Nigeria’s peace and stability.
Security experts have also warned that such tensions could strain diplomatic relations between Nigeria and the United States if not carefully managed through dialogue and mutual respect.
As at press time, neither the Nigerian government nor the U.S. Embassy in Abuja has issued an official response to Asari Dokubo’s latest warning.
