LAPAI, NIGER STATE – A deadly confrontation has erupted in Fapo Village, Lapai Local Government Area, as the Niger State Police Command confirmed the killing of one person and injury of another in a violent clash between Fulani herders and local vigilantes.
The incident, which occurred around 10:00 p.m. on April 8, was reported by Usman Musa of Gidan-Mangoro, Minna. According to him, his sons, Habibu and Abbas Usman, were returning from cattle rearing when they were allegedly accosted by Fulani vigilantes. The situation escalated when the herders reportedly refused to stop, sparking a confrontation that led to the fatal shooting of Abbas Usman.
A vigilante member identified as Laulo Chairman from Fulani Camp Gulu Kandi was also injured during the clash.
The Divisional Police Officer in Lapai swiftly visited the scene, and both the deceased and the injured were taken to the General Hospital in Suleja for autopsy and medical attention.
Authorities are investigating the incident as tensions simmer in the area.
