Tragedy struck in Iyamon Village, Illushi, Ubiaja, as a 14-year-old boy, Okonkwo Obina Emmanuel, lost his life after a botched ritual allegedly performed by a self-proclaimed native doctor, Amechi Edozunor, and his accomplice, Kelvin Ugru.

According to police sources, the horrific incident occurred during a bizarre charm ritual intended to make the teenager “invulnerable to bottles.” In a shocking twist, the suspects struck the boy’s head with a bottle to prove the charm’s potency, resulting in fatal injuries.

The incident, reported on April 2, 2025, by the victim’s elder brother, Okonkwo Onyenbushi, led to Emmanuel being rushed to Wisdom Hospital, and later transferred to Ogbeide Hospital, where he died three days later.

The Edo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of both suspects, who remain in custody as investigations continue. The boy’s body has been deposited at the hospital mortuary for autopsy.
