A 16-year-old girl and a 22-year-old boy have married in Yakasai, Kano State, after prolonged delays in obtaining parental consent for their union.

According to a friend of the groom, the couple opted to proceed with the marriage to avoid engaging in any unlawful or immoral relationship, citing their commitment to doing what is right.

“They were in love and didn’t want to go against their religious and moral values. Their friends supported them and helped make the wedding possible,” the friend said.

The ceremony was reportedly organized with the help of peers within the Yakasai community and conducted in a modest but respectful manner.

The development has sparked conversations in the community, with some praising the couple’s decision as bold and principled, while others express concern over the absence of formal parental approval.

The marriage has since gained public attention, highlighting broader discussions about youth, love, morality, and tradition in northern Nigeria.
