Taraba Political Earthquake: PDP Chairman Quits, Set to Join Governor Kefas in APC Shift

Borno State Government

Taraba State was thrown into fresh political turbulence on Tuesday as the Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Abubakar Bawa, abruptly resigned his position and dumped the party entirely—signalling a dramatic realignment ahead of the 2025 political season.

Bawa, who had just returned from the PDP convention in Ibadan, announced his resignation in what insiders describe as a “calculated and well-timed exit.” His departure marks one of the most significant cracks yet within the party’s Taraba structure.

Reliable sources disclosed that Bawa is preparing to formally defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC), where he is expected to join Governor Agbu Kefas, who is also finalising plans to leave the PDP.

This unfolding shift, which many in Jalingo are calling a “political landslide,” is already sending shockwaves across the state, with analysts predicting a major shake-up in party loyalties and future elections.

As Taraba’s political map begins to redraw itself, all eyes now turn to when—not if—the former PDP boss will climb the APC stage to make his next move official.
