The Sokoto Youth for Progressive Movement (SYPM) has announced its withdrawal from the upcoming national protest scheduled for August 1, 2024.
The decision follows extensive consultations with key stakeholders, including youth leaders, traditional leaders, the business community, and civil society organizations.
SYPM highlighted several concerns prompting their decision:
1. Lack of Coordination: Inadequate planning and alignment with other groups pose risks to the protest’s effectiveness and safety.
2.Ineffective Leadership Structure:
The absence of a clear leadership framework threatens to cause disorganization and potential legal issues.
3.Organizational Challenges: Poor logistical management could lead to disruptions and safety hazards.
4.Fragile Security Situation:
Recent developments in Sokoto have heightened security risks, making large public gatherings potentially dangerous.
SYPM remains dedicated to advocating for positive change and will explore alternative methods to address the nation’s economic and social issues. They urge all stakeholders to prioritize safety and constructive dialogue.
God bless Sokoto State and the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
