Operatives of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command have recorded another operational breakthrough following a late-night raid on a suspected criminal hideout in Uruan Local Government Area.
The operation, carried out at about 11:05 p.m. on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, was in compliance with the directive of the Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, to sustain intelligence-driven crackdowns across the state.
Police sources disclosed that a patrol team on intensive visibility policing and targeted surveillance stormed Ifiayong Usuk Village based on credible intelligence. However, on sighting the patrol vehicle, the principal suspect fled the scene, abandoning incriminating items.
Recovered at the hideout were a locally made pistol, one live cartridge, a new Daylong motorcycle without a registration number, a small Itel handset, and substances suspected to be illicit drugs.
Undeterred, the operatives extended the operation to Nwaniba Village, where they arrested a 38-year-old suspect, Joshua Anietie. Wraps of dry weeds suspected to be Indian hemp in commercial quantity were recovered from his possession.
The suspect is currently undergoing investigation, while efforts have been intensified to track down the fleeing principal suspect.
Reaffirming its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, the Command assured residents that sustained raids and intelligence-led operations would continue across identified black spots in the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, who signed the statement on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, urged members of the public to support security agencies with timely and credible information.
With the latest breakthrough, the Command says criminal elements in Akwa Ibom have been put on notice: there will be no hiding place.
