Suspected IED Rips Through Yar’Tasha–Dansadau Road, Panic in Zamfara

Borno State Government

Panic swept through parts of Zamfara State moments ago after a powerful explosion rocked travelers along the Yar’Tasha–Dansadau route in Maru Local Government Area.

Eyewitnesses said the blast—suspected to be an improvised explosive device (IED)—detonated as commuters moved along the busy rural corridor, triggering chaos and forcing residents and motorists to flee for safety. Casualty figures remain unconfirmed, but sources report loss of lives and destruction of property.

The incident has heightened fears over the safety of the Dansadau axis, a route that links several communities and farmlands in Zamfara State. A circulating video shows residents abandoning the area in panic as smoke and confusion enveloped the scene.

Security Response Security agencies were said to have cordoned off the area shortly after the blast, while preliminary investigations commenced to determine the exact cause and those responsible. Officials are expected to deploy explosive ordnance teams, increase patrols and checkpoints, and conduct route-clearing operations to prevent further incidents and reassure travelers.

Authorities have urged residents to avoid the route temporarily, remain vigilant, and report suspicious objects or movements as investigations continue.
