Tension gripped Tse-Nor village in Harga District of Katsina-Ala Local Government Area, Benue State, as an angry mob lynched a suspected bandit following a violent attack in the early hours of Sunday.
The incident, which occurred around 3:00 a.m., began when a group of unidentified gunmen stormed the community and shot a resident, Iorsue Ukande, in the thigh. The gunfire triggered a swift reaction from local youths, who mobilized in large numbers and managed to apprehend one of the attackers.
According to eyewitnesses, the suspect was beaten to death on the spot, while the rest of the assailants escaped under the cover of darkness. His body, yet to be identified, was later taken by authorities to the General Hospital in Katsina-Ala, where he was confirmed dead.
Ukande, the injured resident, is currently receiving medical attention.
Community sources revealed that Tse-Nor has suffered repeated attacks in recent months, leading to heightened alertness and growing reliance on self-defense among locals.
Security agencies have launched an investigation to track down the fleeing suspects and ascertain the motive behind the attack.
