In a bold move to address the alarming number of out-of-school children in Sokoto State, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has pledged his total support for the Sokoto State government’s initiative to reduce the number of out-of-school children in the state.
The pledge was made during a courtesy visit by a high-powered committee tasked with reversing this trend to His Eminence, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, in a resounding show of support, pledged his total commitment to the initiative, calling it a moral and religious duty.
The Sultan, warmly received the Committee, led by its Chairman, Professor Mustapha Namakka Tukur, UNICEF representative, and other key stakeholders determined to tackle the alarming rate of out-of-school children in the State, as the initiative is supported by the UNICEF.
Sultan Sa’ad Abubakar stated that, the palace is part of everyone from local, national, or international who is genuinely working to uplift humanity and secure a better future for children. He said their doors are always open for collaboration that promotes knowledge, compassion, and justice, as Education is the foundation for peace, stability, and sustainable development.
The Sultan commended Governor Ahmed Aliyu for establishing the committee, describing it as a visionary step that will transform the future of Sokoto’s children. He praised the committee members for accepting the responsibility and urged them to remain committed to fulfilling their mandate.
He further assured the total support of the Sultanate Council, pledging to use his influence to rally communities and leaders behind the cause. In a broader gesture, the Sultan also commended the Federal Government for the creation of the Almajiri Commission, calling it a bold move toward inclusive education and social reform.
Earlier, the committee Chairman Professor Mustapha Namakka Tukur, revealed to his eminence that, the committee aimed to address the trend of out of school children in the state, therefore his fatherly support and guidance will go a long way in getting all hands on deck to prioritize education.
He added that, the visit underscores the importance of traditional institutions in influencing public behavior and policy implementation, as he thanked the Sultan for the timely response and intervention, to support the government in this noble course.
The Sultan’s endorsement is expected to galvanize grassroots support, encourage parental involvement, and strengthen policy implementation across the state. With UNICEF’s strategic input, the committee is poised to launch targeted interventions that prioritize education, rural inclusion, and community-based learning.
