A disturbing execution video is once again making rounds on social media, wrongly claimed to be footage from a recent attack in Marte, Borno State, or a fresh assault involving Nigerian troops. But here’s the truth: that video is not new, not Nigerian, and definitely not from Marte.
Here’s what you need to know: The gruesome clip first surfaced in April 2020, shared widely on platforms like NairaLand. It has been confirmed that the video was filmed in the Sahel region, not Nigeria, and it shows JNIM terrorists executing captured soldiers from a foreign military, not Nigerian troops.
YouTube removed the original upload due to its extreme graphic content. Intelligence sources and fact-checkers have repeatedly debunked the footage over the past five years.
Yet, despite overwhelming evidence, the clip keeps reappearing—masquerading as fresh footage from Nigeria’s conflict zones.
@DHQNigeria and @HQNigerianArmy are urging the public to verify information before sharing and to help combat the toxic spread of disinformation.
“This recycled horror does nothing but sow panic and demoralize the public,” a military spokesperson warned. “Let’s stop giving oxygen to falsehood.”
Bottom line: the video is NOT recent, NOT Nigerian, and NOT connected to any current military operation.
