Governor Mai Mala of Yobe State declared a State of Emergency in the Education sector to build foundation for future generations; he considered Education as the bedrock of any meaningful development for a society or nation move to greater socio-economic heights.
The Governor, made the declaration in his first term in office inaugural speech to the people at Government House, Damaturu, his words:
“I hereby declare a state of Emergency on Primary and Secondary Education.’’
“This will enable the State Government build a firm and vigorous base for the improvement of education in the state.”
“Yobe State has over the years clued-up hasty spreading out of the Education system at all levels; but shortcomings noticed with these changes were compounded by swift policy changes”.
“Coupled with lack of accurate focus and credible strategic planning has constituted serious constraints to Educational development in Yobe State long before now”.
Analyst observed that, the main trust of the Nigerian National Policy on Education (enacted in 1977 and revised in 2014) is the provision of formal as well as non – formal modes of Education for all citizens of the Country.
Consequently, the formal system prescribed the ‘ six – three – three – four’ ( 6-3-3-4), i.e. six years at Primary school, two phases of three years each of Secondary Education and four years of tertiary Education.
On the other hand, we have wide variety of non – formal Education programs designed for non – literate adult as well as out of school children and youths.
The programs are intended to meet the Basic Education needs of all citizens regardless of age, socio – economic background, mental or physical condition, even though Basic Education in the Nigeria context is interpreted as Education aimed at equipping individual child, youth and adult with such knowledge and skills that will enable him/her develop to his/her fullest capacity.
Now, in Yobe State, the sector received the desired attention unlike before; it is hope that the scenario can be changed for the better.
Similarly, in an efforts to take Education to a greater hight in Yobe State.

Education, Healthcare delivery, roads, women and youth empowerment to receive priority attention.
