The Federal Government has moved swiftly to calm tensions and restore confidence following the deadly terrorist attack on Nuku and Woro villages in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State.
Vice President Kashim Shettima on Saturday led a high-powered Federal Government delegation to commiserate with victims, community leaders and the Kwara State Government, assuring that President Bola Ahmed Tinibu has ordered decisive security and humanitarian action.
Speaking during the condolence visit, Senator Shettima disclosed that a full battalion of the Nigerian Army has been deployed to Kaiama, with security agencies placed on high alert to flush out terrorists and restore lasting peace to the troubled communities.
“All hands are on deck,” the Vice President assured. “The President is fully committed to ensuring that peace and tranquillity return to Kaiama, Nuku and Woro. Nigerians should be assured that this tragedy will not be allowed to define Kwara State.”
Beyond security, the Vice President announced that President Tinibu has directed the National Emergency Management Agency to immediately mobilise relief materials and resources, working alongside the Kwara State Emergency Management Agency to provide urgent support for affected families.
Describing the attack as shocking and senseless, Shettima noted that the victims were peaceful citizens devoted to their livelihoods and religious practices.
He conveyed the heartfelt condolences of the President and the Federal Government to bereaved families and the people of Kwara State.
While declining to disclose operational details, the Vice President stressed that sensitive security measures were already in motion, adding that the priority of government was to prevent a recurrence and reassure residents.
Earlier, Chairman of the North East Governors’ Forum and Borno State Governor Babagana Umara Zulum offered prayers and condolences on behalf of the region, urging unity and faith in the face of tragedy.
Responding, Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq praised the swift intervention of the Federal Government, confirming that troops, senior police officers and NEMA officials were already on ground, with Operation Savannah Shield activated.
Traditional rulers and local government officials also commended President Tinibu and Vice President Shettima for the prompt deployment of forces and emergency responders, describing the response as reassuring at a difficult moment.
As Kaiama mourns its dead, the Federal Government’s message was unmistakable: the attack will not go unanswered — and peace will be restored.
