Reports say major stakeholders on petroleum resources have made a strong defence for fossil fuel investments, saying Africa’s development needs are being overlooked in the global dynamics of decarbonisation.

They include the Minister of state for petroleum resources, Timipre Sylva, the secretary-general of the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), Dr Mohammad Barkindo, and the minister of mines and hydrocarbons, Equatorial Guinea, Gabriel Mbaga Obiang Lima,

The three spoke at the opening session of the fifth Nigeria International Energy Summit (NIES), in State house in Abuja. On 28th February 2022.

The theme: of the summit is “Revitalising the Industry: ” Future Fuels and Energy Transition.”
