The Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II, has cautioned ministers and presidential aides against excessive praise-singing of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, urging them instead to speak the truth that will help save Nigeria’s economy from further decline.
Speaking at the Oxford Global Think Tank Leadership Conference and Book Launch held in Abuja, Sanusi, who is a former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), said what the country needs at this crucial time are leaders who fear God and have the courage to tell the president the truth, even when it is unpleasant.
“Those who are close to the president have the greatest responsibility to tell him the truth, not to flatter or deceive him,” Sanusi said.
He stressed that sycophancy and blind loyalty have contributed to the nation’s economic and social challenges, warning that any minister or adviser who withholds the truth from the president is complicit in the country’s failure.
“The truth is the only thing that can fix Nigeria, not praise-singing or making the president feel comfortable,” he added.
Sanusi further urged political leaders to focus on policies that promote accountability, transparency, and economic reforms capable of improving the lives of ordinary Nigerians.
The Emir’s remarks have drawn wide attention across the country, with many Nigerians commending his courage for speaking out on issues of national importance.
