A coalition of citizens from Southern Borno has called on Hon. Dr. Asabe Vilita Bashir to contest the 2027 general elections and represent the area at the National Assembly.
The appeal was made by the Southern Borno Concerned Citizens Forum during a gathering held in Maiduguri. The forum said it represents people drawn from nine local government areas of the southern part of the state, including Gwoza, Hawul, Askira Uba, Biu, Bayo, Kwaya Kusar, Shani, Chibok, and Damboa.
In a statement signed by Bulama Sawa, the group said its decision followed an assessment of Dr. Bashir’s record in public service, party loyalty, and community development.
The forum noted that her past engagements in humanitarian activities, particularly in education and youth empowerment, had positively affected communities across the state. It said her leadership qualities and experience in governance would further enhance representation for the people of Southern Borno.
The group also expressed confidence that her representation at the National Assembly would support ongoing development efforts in Borno State, especially in the areas of infrastructure, resettlement, education, and social services.
Members of the forum described their action as peaceful and united, saying delegations travelled from various parts of Southern Borno to participate in the call to service.
Responding on behalf of Dr. Asabe Vilita Bashir, her Personal Assistant, Hon. Samuel S. Maina, thanked the group for what he described as a show of confidence and goodwill.
He said Dr. Bashir was not aware of the initiative but assured the gathering that their message would be conveyed to her. He prayed for safe journeys for participants returning to their communities and encouraged continued unity and prayers for the well being of the region.
