The Nigerian Army has knocked down viral claims surrounding the death of Corporal Ude Jude, branding them as false, misleading, and aimed at undermining public trust.
In a firm clarification, the Headquarters 17 Brigade stated that the late soldier was wrongly reported as a Lieutenant, confirming instead that he was a Corporal enlisted in 2012 from Enugu State.
The Army revealed that the incident did not occur inside the barracks as speculated. Rather, Ude sustained injuries outside the Funtua Forward Operating Base in Katsina after a violent clash with a civilian during a personal dispute on February 16.
He was treated at the Brigade Medical Centre but later collapsed on March 24 and was confirmed dead on arrival.
Dismissing allegations of neglect, the Army said it provided full medical care and burial support, while maintaining close contact with the deceased’s family.
Authorities also insisted there is no evidence of internal foul play, vowing to track down those involved in the altercation.
The Army urged the public to ignore unverified reports and rely on official information.
