The 10th Sokoto State House of Assembly Committee on Local Government and Community Development, chaired by Hon. Sa’idu N. Ibrahim (Sabon Birni South), convened today to chart a roadmap for scrutinizing the bill to amend the Sokoto Sultanate Council Law of 2008.
The proposed amendments do not affect the powers of the Sultan of Sokoto or include provisions for dethroning traditional rulers, except by the Sultan’s recommendation and the Executive Governor’s approval.
Instead, the focus is on Kingmakers, District Heads, and Village Heads. The Committee has resolved to hold a public hearing on Tuesday, July 2nd, 2024, at 2:30 PM in the Mini Chamber of the Assembly Complex.
This hearing aims to involve the public and dispel misinformation, ensuring transparency and community input in the legislative process.
