The Sokoto State government is to plant one million assorted trees 2024, Governor Ahmed Aliyu has disclosed
Governor Ahmed who flagged off the 2024 tree planting at Wajeke village in Wamakko local council of the state charged all the 23 LGA chairmen to plant 2,000 trees in their respective areas to check desertification and other global problems.
He equally directed all principals, Head teachers and para-statals to plant trees in the schools and surroundings to make the state green
The tree planting was done at the site of the ongoing 500 low cost housing units at Wajeke village in Wamakko area of the state
Present at the occasion are the former governor and senator Aliyu Wamakko, former minister Mukhtar Shagari, Maigari Dingyadi, former deputy governor Abdullahi Chika, commissioners, special advisers, APC state chairman Sadiq Isa Achida, top party chieftains, women in politics and party faithfuls all graced the occasion
It could be recalled that tree planting is an annual event by both the federal and state government dated back to past years of governorship in the country, both military and civil rules were not left out.
