Sokoto Govt says NO to proposed Hunger Protest

Sokoto State Government has made its position known on the planned nationwide protest scheduled to commence on the 29th of August.

The planned Protest which was scheduled by various youth groups across the country to vent their anger against the prevailing economic condition in the country.

Governor Ahmad Aliyu who distanced his administration and other stakeholders from the planned protest while addressing residents during an interactive session said this on Friday.

Aliyu further said the protest would not take place in Sokoto state and anybody that come out for any form of protest should be ready to face the risk of his actions.

The governor who admitted that the present economic hardship and the high cost of living is beyond citizens purchasing power, however stated that embarking on protest would rather aggravated the current challenges.

He said his administration has embarked on a number of programme towards addressing the challenges of economic hardship, including the distribution of palliative and other interventions for civil servants and other interest groups.

He said a President Bola Tinubu is working hard to address the present challenges in the country and therefore citizens ought to support these efforts to yield the desired result.

Also,the state Minister for water resources,Barrister Muhammad Bello Goronyo urged people in the state and distance themselves from the proposed protest saying the organiser of the protest were faceless who are out destroy the peaceful coexistence of Nigeria.

Various Islamic scholars preached peace and prayed for the country to continue as one entity nation .
